Janet is an experienced singer, performer, vocal workshop leader and song arranger who has been active around the UK for many years and has gained a reputation for her knowledge and expertise on traditional Scottish folk music as well as her unique take on important social and political issues of the day.
Currently, Janet runs three regular community choirs: in Silsden (where she lives), Settle in North Yorkshire, and Burnley in East Lancashire.
In recent years, she has also worked with the organisation, Peace Through Folk, in Leek setting up a choir there. There is a "Gathering" in Alstonefield each year with a "Peace Concert" as its centrepiece - Janet works there putting together programmes each year drawing in many great artists to perform specially composed pieces at the event.
At the Street Choirs Festival in Kendal last year, she taught and led 900 singers in the singing of "Unison in Harmony" by Jim Boyes. This was one of six songs chosen to be learnt and sung by all the choirs attending the festival.
