- Dreaming Our Woods - song lyrics
Vanessa Grasse
Vanessa is a dance and multidisciplinary artist from Sicily now based in Leeds, UK. Her work embraces improvisation, cross art-form collaboration and site-specific performance. Her cross disciplinary approach has let her work take different forms, including video installation, walks and outdoor installations. In the recent years, walking and exploring urban and rural environments has formed a base for her movement research and choreographic practice. She has been commissioned choreographic, led and audio walks by Dance4, Still Walking Festival, The University of Leeds, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Ludus and Juncture festivals among others.
She is interested in how we experience and practice perception in our daily living with the environment and with others, and how we sense and inhabit a place. Ecology is an important aspect of her work, acknowledging the relational nature of self and environment and the resonance of movement, action and agency. Her work is underlined by a movement practice based on attentional and perceptual investigations. She is interested in offering settings to experience embodiment, composition as kinesthetic experience and stimulating different channels of attention.
For "Our Woods", Vanessa will be leading a session entitled: "Pathscaping: Sensorial Walking and Drawing"

Do we listen and see with just our ears and eyes? Join Vanessa Grasse, dance and multidisciplinary artist, for a meditative and playful walk where you’ll immerse yourself in the landscape engaging your physicality and senses. We’ll start by listening to the sounds around us, attempting to draw them on paper, continuing then to draw whilst walking. The second half of the walk will be in silence. Walking at different speeds, sitting and lying down will transform what we see and hear.
